The Riello UPS Range
Three-phase, transformerless, online double-conversion UPS. High efficiency and a compact footprint make the Sentryum the standard specification for data centres, server rooms and mission-critical IT environments where floor space and running cost both matter. Available in configurations to suit single or multiple battery strings and a range of autonomy requirements.
MPEI supplies, installs, commissions and maintains Sentryum systems nationally.
Three-phase, online double-conversion UPS. Rated. A proven workhorse for commercial and industrial sites, the Multi Sentry is widely installed across South Africa and remains one of the most serviceable three-phase platforms in the market.
MPEI carries the diagnostic capability for Multi Sentry service alarms, battery replacement and capacitor and fan lifecycle work.
Riello Master MPS / MPT
Three-phase, transformer-based, online double-conversion UPS. Specified where the load requires galvanic isolation between input and output, or where the site conditions call for the robustness of a transformer-based design.
MPEI has supplied, installed and commissioned Master MPS units in live industrial environments in KwaZulu-Natal.
Three-phase modular UPS with hot-swappable power modules. Rated. Built for sites that expect to grow. Capacity is added by inserting modules rather than replacing the system, and a failed module can be swapped without dropping the critical load.

Transformer-Based or Transformerless: Getting the Specification Right
Not every site can take a transformerless UPS.
Where the load requires galvanic isolation between the input and the output, a transformer-based unit such as the Master MPS must be specified. Where isolation is not a requirement, a transformerless unit such as the Sentryum delivers higher efficiency, lower running cost and a substantially smaller footprint.
This decision is made at specification stage, and getting it wrong is one of the most expensive errors in UPS procurement. It is also one of the most common, because the question is often never asked.
MPEI assesses the requirement on site rather than assuming it.

Does a Riello UPS need a transformer?
Only where the application requires galvanic isolation between input and output. Transformerless units such as the Sentryum are more efficient and take up less floor space. Transformer-based units such as the Master MPS are specified where isolation is a genuine requirement.
How long do Riello UPS batteries last?
It depends on the battery specified, not on the UPS. VRLA batteries with a 10 to 12 year design life are common in commercial installations, but actual service life is always shorter and is driven by ambient temperature, discharge cycling and charging regime. MPEI recommends battery impedance testing to establish true remaining capacity rather than relying on installation date alone.
What is the difference between the Sentryum and the Multi Sentry?
The Sentryum is a transformerless design with higher efficiency and a smaller footprint. The Multi Sentry is a proven platform widely installed across South Africa. The correct choice depends on the load, the site conditions and whether galvanic isolation is required.
Can a Riello UPS be expanded later?
The Multi Power modular range is designed for exactly this. Capacity is added by inserting additional power modules rather than replacing the system. For non-modular platforms, expansion means either paralleling units or replacing the UPS, which is why the growth question should be answered at specification stage.
Do you supply UPS units without installation?
No. MPEI does not undertake supply-only work. A UPS that is incorrectly installed or never properly commissioned is a liability rather than a protection, and we do not put our name to it.
