Deye Inverter System
Deye Inverter Installation for Commercial and Industrial Sites
Deye manufactures the hybrid inverter platform that a large part of the South African market runs on, including units sold under other brand names. It is a capable, proven, NRS approved platform at a competitive price, and the three-phase range extends well into genuine commercial and industrial territory.
The trade-off is support. Deye's local structure is thinner than Sunsynk's. That does not make it a bad choice, but it does mean the quality of the installer matters more, not less. On a commercial site, a Deye system is only as good as the person who commissioned it and the contractor who maintains it.
Mtshali Power Electronics and Infrastructure supplies, installs, commissions and maintains Deye systems for commercial and industrial clients across Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and nationally.
Where Deye Makes Sense
Deye is the right call when the price difference against Sunsynk is material to the project and the client has a contractor who can actually support the system. On a cost-sensitive commercial installation with a maintenance agreement behind it, Deye delivers the same platform for less money.
Deye is the wrong call when the system is backing critical production or IT load and nobody is going to maintain it. Buying on price and then leaving the system unsupported is the most expensive version of this decision available.
We will tell you which of those you are, honestly, before you sign.
What Matters on a Commercial Deye Installation
Generator input. Deye hybrids have a generator port and can call and control a standby set. We service generators, so this gets wired, configured and tested under load rather than left on default settings.
Export limitation. CT clamps on the incoming supply, configured for zero export or limited export as your municipality requires. This is a compliance requirement and one of the more common failure points in an SSEG application.
Battery BMS communication. The inverter and the lithium battery have to communicate, and the pairing has to be verified at commissioning. Where communication is not established, the battery will not charge to full or discharge to its rated depth. That is capacity you paid for and are not getting.
Paralleling. Matched firmware across units, correct current sharing, correct configuration. Verified under load, not assumed from the manual.
Firmware. Deye firmware moves, and a system left on shipping firmware for three years will accumulate faults that were fixed years ago. Firmware management is part of our maintenance schedule.
Coastal specification. Durban and the KZN coastal belt are a corrosion environment. Mounting rail, fasteners, enclosures and combiner boxes are specified accordingly. The marginal cost is trivial against replacing a rusted mounting system in year six.
Battery Pairing
Low voltage 48V work. We pair Deye low voltage three-phase units with Hubble. Communication is verified against current firmware on both sides at design stage. Published compatibility documents go stale and we do not rely on them.
High voltage three-phase work. We pair high voltage units with Freedom Won. Where a battery profile update is required on the manufacturer's side for a specific inverter model, that ticket is raised and closed before commissioning day rather than discovered on it.
We Measure Before We Quote
A quote produced from your municipal bill and a satellite photo of your roof gives you kWh consumed and nothing else. It does not give you peak demand, load factor, power factor, the time of day your load actually peaks, or which loads are worth backing up.
We install a power logger on your incoming supply and leave it for a working week. From the real load profile we size the array, size the battery, decide whether export limitation is needed, and produce a payback figure that stands up to scrutiny.
It adds a week. It is the difference between a system that pays for itself and a system that sits oversized on your roof.
Compliance and Grid Connection
-
Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) application to the relevant municipality
-
NRS 097-2-3 compliance for embedded generation
-
Inverter certification against the approved equipment list
-
Export limitation configuration where export is not permitted
-
SANS 10142-1 compliant installation
-
Certificate of Compliance issued by our own registered electricians
We are not a broker for this. Our own people sign it.
Solar Does Not Replace Your UPS
A hybrid inverter has a transfer time. When the grid drops, the inverter takes a moment to switch the load across to battery. It is short, but it is not zero. Your lights will not notice. Your servers will. Your PLCs will.
Solar and battery storage carry the building. A UPS carries the load that cannot blink. A generator carries the long outage. Three different jobs, not interchangeable.
We design the whole chain, because we have always maintained the whole chain.
Maintenance Under SLA
This matters more on Deye than on any other platform, because the local support structure is thinner. A Deye system with a maintenance contract behind it is a sound commercial investment. A Deye system with nobody looking after it is a liability with a five year fuse.
Under SLA we carry out thermal imaging on strings, combiner boxes and terminations, battery testing, firmware and fault management, and remote monitoring with defined response times.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Deye the same as Sunsynk?
They are close relatives. Deye manufactures the hardware platform behind a number of brands sold in South Africa, so the underlying technology is largely the same. The difference is in the local support and warranty structure rather than in the electronics.
Is Deye approved for grid connection in South Africa?
The three-phase hybrid range includes NRS approved models. Approval is model-specific and the approved equipment lists are updated, so we confirm the exact model against the current list as part of the SSEG application rather than assuming it.
Can a Deye inverter run my standby generator? Yes.
There is a generator input and the inverter can start, run, charge from and stop a standby set. It has to be commissioned properly. We service generators and we test this under load.
Which battery works with a Deye inverter?
Hubble on 48V low voltage systems, Freedom Won on high voltage three-phase. Compatibility is verified against current firmware at design stage.
Should I choose Deye or Sunsynk for a commercial site?
Deye where budget is the binding constraint and the system will be maintained. Sunsynk where downtime carries a real cost and the warranty structure needs to be as strong as possible. We install both and we have no reason to push you either way.
Do you supply Deye nationally?
We are based in Durban and cover KwaZulu-Natal directly, with project delivery nationwide.
Can you take over a Deye system somebody else installed?
Yes, after a compliance inspection. We are not signing our name to work we have not verified. Once it passes, or once we have brought it up to standard, we will maintain it under SLA.
