Do I really need a UPS, a generator and solar, or can I pick one?

 

It depends on your loads. A site with sensitive electronics that cannot tolerate any interruption needs the UPS layer no matter what else you install. A site that must run through multi-hour outages needs the generator. Solar is the layer that lowers your cost. Most commercial sites benefit from all three, but a load study tells us exactly which layers your business actually needs and how to size them.

 

Will the system switch over automatically or does staff have to start the generator?

A properly designed system switches automatically. The UPS carries the critical load instantly, and the generator starts and transfers on its own if the outage runs long. Your staff should not have to intervene.

 

How big a generator do I need?

Smaller than most people expect. The generator should be sized to your essential load, not your peak nameplate demand. Oversizing wastes capital and burns extra diesel. We size it from measured data in the load study.

 

Can solar power my whole business during load shedding?
