Sunsynk Inverter Installation for Commercial and Industrial Sites
Sunsynk has become the most widely deployed hybrid inverter brand in South Africa, and on commercial work there is a sound reason for that. The local support structure is the strongest in the market, warranty claims are handled in-country rather than through an overseas distributor, and the platform scales from a single three-phase unit up into paralleled arrays without changing technology partway through the project.
Mtshali Power Electronics and Infrastructure supplies, installs, commissions and maintains Sunsynk systems for commercial and industrial clients across Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and nationally. Our focus is commercial and industrial. We take on residential projects selectively, where the system is substantial and the scope suits us.
We are a critical power contractor first. We have spent years keeping UPS systems, battery banks and generators running in server rooms, port logistics facilities and industrial plants where an outage costs real money. That is the discipline we bring to a solar installation, and it shows up in exactly the parts of the job that most installers skip.
The Three-Phase Range
Sunsynk's three-phase hybrid range splits into two families, and choosing the wrong one is one of the more expensive mistakes available on a commercial project.
Low voltage three-phase. Built around a 48V battery bank. Well understood, widely supported, and compatible with the broadest range of lithium batteries on the South African market. Suited to smaller commercial sites where the battery bank is modest and the load is manageable.
High voltage three-phase. Built around a high voltage battery stack. Lower current for the same power, which means thinner DC cabling, lower losses and a cleaner install at scale. This is the correct family for larger commercial and industrial sites, and it is where the paralleling capability really matters.
The decision is not made on price. It is made on the battery bank you are going to need in three years, not the one you need on day one. We size for the growth path, because retrofitting the wrong family means replacing the inverters.
Battery Pairing
The inverter and the battery have to talk to each other. This is not a detail, it is the difference between a managed system and a bank of cells being charged blind.
Low voltage 48V work. We pair Sunsynk low voltage three-phase units with Hubble. The platform is well proven locally, support is accessible, and the BMS communication is stable once configured correctly.
One warning worth stating plainly: the published compatibility documentation between inverter and battery manufacturers goes stale. A PDF that was accurate eighteen months ago will not reflect current firmware on either side. We verify compatibility against current firmware at design stage, not against a downloaded datasheet.
High voltage three-phase work. We pair high voltage Sunsynk units with Freedom Won. On some inverter and battery combinations the battery profile has to be updated on the manufacturer's side before the pairing will communicate correctly, and that is a ticket that has to be raised and closed before commissioning day, not discovered on it. We handle that as part of the project, ahead of time.
If your system is already installed and the inverter and battery are not communicating, the symptom is usually a battery that will not charge to full or discharge to its rated depth. That is capacity you paid for and are not getting.
What We Do Differently
We measure before we quote.
Most commercial solar quotes in this country are produced from a copy of your municipal bill and a satellite photo of your roof. That gives you kWh consumed. It does not give you peak demand, load factor, power factor, when in the day your load actually peaks, or which of your loads are worth backing up and which are not.
We install a power logger on your incoming supply and leave it for a working week. From the real load profile we size the array, size the battery, decide whether export limitation is needed, and produce a payback figure that will survive contact with your finance department.
It adds a week to the process. It is the difference between a system that pays for itself and a system that sits oversized on your roof.
We commission the generator port.
Sunsynk three-phase units have a dedicated generator input, and the inverter can start, run, charge from and stop a standby set. Wired and configured correctly, your generator becomes part of the energy strategy instead of a separate island that fights the inverter.
It is frequently left on default settings because the installer does not service generators. We do. It gets configured, and it gets tested under load.
We specify for the coast.
Durban and the KZN coastal belt are a corrosion environment. Mounting rail, fasteners, enclosures and combiner boxes all have to be specified for it, and the marginal cost of doing so is trivial against the cost of replacing a rusted mounting system in year six. This is the kind of thing that only shows up long after the installer has been paid.
We build in a maintenance bypass where it matters.
This is a habit carried over from UPS work. If a system is backing a load that cannot be dropped, there has to be a way to take the inverter out of circuit for service without taking the load down with it. Most solar installers do not think in these terms because most solar installers do not maintain what they install.

Any grid-tied system at commercial premises has to be registered, and this is where most commercial solar projects stall.

Solar Does Not Replace Your UPS
This is the part the solar industry does not tell you, and it is the reason a critical power contractor should be doing this work.
A hybrid inverter has a transfer time. When the grid drops, the inverter takes a moment to switch the load across to battery. It is short, but it is not zero. Your lights will not notice. Your servers will. Your PLCs will. Your medical equipment will.
Solar and battery storage carry the building. A UPS carries the load that cannot blink. A generator carries the long outage. They are three different jobs and they are not interchangeable, and a solar installer who tells you the inverter will protect your server room is either not thinking about it or does not want to complicate the sale.
We design the whole chain, because we have always maintained the whole chain.

Maintenance Under SLA
Solar hardware fails quietly. A string goes down, a battery module degrades, a connection heats up, and your yield drops for eight months before anyone notices. There is no alarm on your desk. There is just a bill that stopped getting smaller.
Under a service level agreement we carry out thermal imaging on strings, combiner boxes and terminations, battery testing, inverter firmware and fault management, and remote monitoring with defined response times.
This is the core of our business. We are a maintenance company that installs, not an installer that offers maintenance as an afterthought.

Are Sunsynk inverters suitable for commercial and industrial use?
Yes. The three-phase high voltage range is built for commercial and industrial application, supports parallel configuration for larger installations, and carries strong South African warranty support. We confirm the current warranty term for your specific model at quotation stage.
How many Sunsynk inverters can be run in parallel?
The larger three-phase units support parallel configuration, with each inverter carrying its own battery bank. The practical limit depends on the model and on the site. We confirm the configuration against current specification at design stage rather than working from a brochure figure.
Can a Sunsynk inverter control my standby generator? Yes. There is a dedicated generator input, and the inverter can start, run, charge from and stop a standby set. It has to be wired and configured correctly, which is frequently where it goes wrong. We service generators and we test this under load.
Which battery should I use with a Sunsynk inverter?
On 48V low voltage three-phase we work with Hubble. On high voltage three-phase we work with Freedom Won. In both cases the pairing is verified against current firmware, not against a published compatibility document that may be out of date.
Will a Sunsynk inverter protect my server room?

Is Sunsynk worth the premium over Deye?
On a commercial site where downtime has a cost and the system has to be warrantable for a decade, usually yes. On smaller installations where the price difference is material and the system will be properly maintained, Deye is a sound alternative. We install both and we will give you a straight answer for your site.

Do you supply Sunsynk nationally?
We are based in Durban and cover KwaZulu-Natal directly, with project delivery nationwide.
Do you take over a Sunsynk system somebody else installed? Yes, after a compliance inspection. We are not signing our name to work we have not verified. Once it passes, or once we have brought it up to standard, we will maintain it under SLA.
